Facilities
|
We are very proud of our fine hall which combines a lovely hall, built over 90 years ago as a memorial to those from the village who lost their lives in the First World War, with modern facilities which provide for the expectations of most people in the 21st century.
The hall is licensed by the local authority for 75 people when seated and 100 when standing. For most purposes this means the capacity of the hall is 75 and the hall has 75 seats. We have a range of tables of different sizes from small square ones to sturdy rectangular ones around which 8 people can be seated comfortably.
Whilst the hall has the standard premises licence for entertainment and the playing of music, it does not have a licence for selling alcoholic drinks. If you want to sell alcoholic drinks, you must obtain a TEN (Temporary Events Notice) from North Devon Council. We can supply the relevant link to their website, but you must first discuss your requirements with the hall and then apply and pay for the licence yourself.
The hall has a range of facilities that are included in the hire charge. These include heating and lighting, and use of the fine, modern kitchen. There is a full range of cutlery and crockery for 75 people, including wine glasses. The kitchen is equipped with 2 full size cookers, 2 fridges, a microwave, a water boiler for making tea etc. and a commercial dishwasher. Near the kitchen in a store cupboard is a large freezer which can be used by arrangement. The hall also has a range of tablecloths which can be used by arrangement. Useful for conferences and presentations in particular the hall has a fitted digital projector, sound system and wide screen. There is also WiFi and internet access. If required there is also a Clavinova electronic keyboard that can be used for music events.
Our toilets are modern and the toilet for those with disabilities has all facilities that are required and also contains baby changing facilities. The entire hall caters for those with mobility difficulties with access available through one of the front doors, the back door (adjacent to the car park), and from the meadow (via a wide path) to the committee room and stage.
The hall trustees own the adjacent meadow which is another fine facility. As well as being a very attractive open space, there is also a small area with play equipment for young children. Whilst, of course, there is no objection at all to informal use of the meadow, especially on a fine day, the meadow must be booked if organised activities are planned for the meadow. Organised activities would include serving of food and drink and the erection of gazebos, tents and marquees. If a commercial size marquee is required, this must be discussed in advance before the booking is confirmed. The playing of amplified music of any sort (whether or not in a marquee) and the letting off of fireworks or Chinese lanterns anywhere on the meadow or outside the hall are absolutely forbidden.
The car park adjacent to the hall is a very useful facility, but it is not owned or managed by the hall. Whilst users of the hall are able to use it, a contribution for its use is expected of hirers, either through individual contributions by those attending or by a contribution by the hirer to the owner whose details will be given when a booking is made.
Lee Memorial Hall has been awarded HallMark 1 & 2 accreditation.
